Text Analysis
A quick introduction to text analysis techniques. We
basically concentrate on two families of techniques: qualitative and
quantitative. Under the qualitative rubric, we examine various
strategies for open-ended coding of textual data, including looking for
themes, schemas and categories. As part of this we discuss the grounded
theory approach. Under the quantitative rubric, we examine strategies
for coding data against a predefined codebook, assessing reliability,
and using coded data in statistical analyses. Included here is content
analysis.
