Types of Statistics

(based on Bartholomew, 1995)

		Four kinds of statistics

		1. Population Summaries.
Facts and Figures. As found in the US Census or the Statistical Abstract
		of the United States

		2. Sampling and Inference.
The Fisherian revolution. Statistics of small samples drawn from
well-defined populations. Student's T is the archetype. The generalized
		linear model is full flowering.

		3. Stochastic Systems.
Modeling. Measurement and analysis of constructs.

		4. Statistical thinking.
