A thought experiment from Lave and March. Suppose we have a society
with two clans (A and B).
Thinking about the implications of this model, you may come to the
(correct) conclusion that, over time, clan A will dwindle in size while
clan B will grow larger. But how can you be sure you are thinking about
it right?
