Survey Homework

This is a collaborative exercise to be carried out by teams. The teams are (a) the students in DSIS, and (b) the students in Marketing.

Start with a theory, derive a simple hypothesis of the form "X leads to Y" and then create a survey to measure X and Y.

For example, you might theorize that people with highly desired traits (such as being tall and good looking like myself) don't need to try as hard to succeed in their vocations, and as a result don't perform quite as well. So your hypothesis might be that tall students have lower GPAs than short students, or, more generally, that GPA declines with height. So the survey should measure height and GPA (and you are welcome to throw in some control variables such as gender as well).

To do the survey, you must use an online survey created by SurveyGizmo. Just go to their website and sign up for a free student account. Then get a sample of at least 30 students to fill out the survey online. (Perhaps somebody can lend you their undergraduate class for this.) When you're done collecting data, do some simple analysis. Come to class prepared to walk us through the survey and the analysis.

Make sure to incorporate as many of Dillman's principles for good survey design as much as possible.
